Welcome to the Blog

Before I was encouraged to start this home organizing business, I wanted to do something that was “lower risk”—starting a blog. My mind is often occupied with thoughts about organizing, tidying, belongings, behavioral psychology, low-waste living, decluttering, home, and lifestyle. I thought it could be nice to have a place to share those thoughts and potentially offer something of value to others.

So, I paid for a Squarespace website and secured a domain name.

I only wrote three posts. But why only three? At the time, I wanted a change from how I was doing home organizing, and my former boss, Lisa suggested I start my own business. After our conversation, I started dedicating my time and energy to that new venture. Here I am, a year later, launching a new blog for Farewell Clutter Co. There’s something special about returning to this creative outlet.

What You Can Expect From This Blog

Here, you'll find education, insights, stories, and inspiration related to home organizing, tidying, wellness, and mindful living. My goal is to offer positive influence and support as you create spaces and develop habits that enhance your mental and physical well-being. There will also be behind-the-scenes looks at building a business and glimpses into my personal life since everything is interconnected.

Some topics to look forward to:

○ Fundamentals of working with a home organizer: What is a home organizer, what do they do, when should I hire one, and how to ask for help

○ Common misconceptions about home organizing and typical challenges people face in their homes

○ Exploration of different types of organizing and decluttering methods

○ Real-life client stories, testimonials, and case studies

○ Insights into the mental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual aspects of organizing, home, and our health

○ Guides for donating, recycling, and disposing of hard-to-dispose-of items

My First Ever Blog Post

For anyone interested in reading it, I will include the very first blog post I ever wrote. I initially titled it “One. Creation Phase.” then changed it to “To New Beginnings.” Not very creative, but the idea is just to get started.

We have begun. Or more specifically, I have begun. I am sitting at the computer desk with an empty water bottle to my left and my journal splayed open to the “website blog sharings braindump” page to my right. My eyes travel up and out the window towards the horizontal stretch of trees. The weather is changing and I can sense it in the air. This summer-to-fall transition has a scent and feel that is highly nostalgic for me. Am I the only one? Visually, the trees cue the subtle shift in seasons with their colored leaves. This, I love.

I am thirsty and paraesthesia is running down my right leg but I cannot convince myself to make my way downstairs for some water. This afternoon of figuring things out on Squarespace and creating in a way I have never created drew me in. Now that Grammarly has been added to my extensions bar, I am chuckling at how my penchant for run-on sentences and improper grammar is causing the app to work. The self-consciousness of not knowing what to say, how to say it, or if it is worth saying is one of the barriers that keep people, including me, from putting themselves out there. It’s astonishing what can be accomplished by just getting started without the drudgery of figuring everything out before taking the first step. By doing something different and not allowing myself to plan and subsequently, over plan, I found myself worrying less about needing to be a competent writer and having a strong idea of how I want to organize the blog.

I am here now.
