Asking for Help from a Home Organizer

When I tell people that I am a home organizer, their responses usually fall into one of three categories:

  1. “Oh my gosh. I need that in my life,” or “I need you to organize my _________________’s house! They could use the help.”

  2. "What does that mean?”

  3. “Why would anyone need someone to come organize their house?”

Spaces without organization and purpose often become a catchall for miscellaneous items.

If you're nodding your head because you relate to the first response, you’re not alone in feeling this way. Many people feel overwhelmed by clutter in their environment, and their mental state often mirrors that. Here are common traits I see in people who could benefit from having help.

Living with Inefficiencies

If you or someone you know could benefit from more organization in their life, you may have noticed how clutter weighs them down—struggling to find things, tripping over piles of stuff, or feeling constant stress. Removing or managing clutter reduces anxiety, boosts confidence, and improves well-being.

Not Knowing Where to Start

One common obstacle to beginning this process is not knowing where to start. I’d like to normalize this feeling of “not knowing.” Think of organizing your house as learning a new skill. There are many ways to approach this:

○ Taking a DIY approach by reading books, listening to podcasts, and watching YouTube videos (so. many. YouTube. videos)

○ Taking classes

○ Hiring someone to guide you in person

Hesitation With Investing in Yourself and Your Home

In this culture of doing everything yourself, hiring someone to help you organize might feel uncomfortable or even unnecessary. I encourage you to see it as an investment in learning a valuable skill that ultimately saves you more time, improves your health, and preserves your sanity.
